From the Vineyard
The 2013 harvest has begun, the fruit is looking great, and the flavours are fantastic! The dry, summer months provided a warm and measured ripening period with plenty of canopy growth and with the new Sassafras/Wesley Vale irrigation scheme in full swing we were able to control our moisture balance.
Autumn is all about the harvest - nets are on, fruit is ripening, sugar and acid are regularly monitored along with any late season disease pressure. As the bird pressure increases while the fruit is ripening, our resident vineyard dogs Oscar and Pebbles are on high alert!
We have already harvested our fruit for the Catherine Sparkling, and that will be followed by the Pinot Gris. After a short wait the Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling are harvested and finally, our favourite, the Pinot Noir will be picked at the end of April.
We are all very excited about our 2013 vintage, especially the fruit from the new Oulton block and are very much looking forward to sampling some from the bottle!
